iPhone 18 Singapore: Launch Updates

Apple launched only the iPhone 18 Pro (from S$1,899) and iPhone 18 Pro Max (from S$2,099) in Singapore in September 2026, alongside the foldable iPhone Duo. The base iPhone 18 was not released — it is expected in spring 2027 with the iPhone 18e and iPhone Air 2. Pre-orders for the Pro models opened 12 September, with retail from 18 September.

Most people searching for the iPhone 18 want the standard model — the one that usually costs a few hundred dollars less than the Pro and does 90% of what the Pro does. That phone did not launch.

Apple has split its release calendar in two, and September 2026 was the premium half. This is a genuine change in how Apple ships iPhones, and it changes how you should time an upgrade. Below is what actually launched with confirmed Singapore pricing, what is coming later, and what that means if you were planning to buy or subscribe this month.

What Launched in September 2026

Apple announced the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max at its "Surprise and Shine" event on 9 September 2026. Pre-orders opened at 8pm SGT on 12 September, with retail availability from 18 September.

Singapore pricing starts at S$1,899 for the iPhone 18 Pro S$1,899 for the iPhone 18 Pro and S$2,099 for the iPhone 18 Pro Max, both at 256GB. Storage runs 256GB, 512GB, 1TB and 2TB — Apple has retired the 128GB tier on Pro models, so the entry point is higher than in previous generations. Both come in black, silver, glacier and burgundy.

The Pro Max uses a 6.9-inch LTPO Super Retina XDR OLED display against the Pro's 6.3-inch panel. Both run the A20 Pro chip on a 2nm process, and both get a 48MP Fusion Main camera with a variable aperture — the first time an iPhone has offered real optical aperture control rather than computational depth effects. The Pro Max adds 12GB of RAM, an 18MP front camera and a 5,391mAh battery.

Why there is No Base iPhone 18

Apple has moved to a two-part annual cycle. Premium and new-category devices launch in autumn; mainstream and affordable models launch in spring.

That means the standard iPhone 18 is expected in spring 2027, arriving with the iPhone 18e and the iPhone Air 2. Apple has not announced a date or a Singapore price for any of them.

One clarification worth making, because pre-launch coverage muddled it: there is no "iPhone 18 Plus" in Apple's lineup. The Plus tier is gone. The 2026 autumn range is Pro, Pro Max and the foldable iPhone Duo, and nothing else.

What the Variable Aperture Actually Changes

Spec-sheet camera upgrades are usually incremental. This one is not, and it is the main reason to consider the Pro over waiting.

Every iPhone camera until now has had a fixed aperture, with depth-of-field simulated in software. A variable aperture means the lens physically controls how much light reaches the sensor and how shallow the focus falls off. In practice that means better low-light capture without pushing ISO, and background blur that behaves like optics rather than an algorithm deciding where an edge is.

It is also Pro-only this generation. The base iPhone 18 arriving in spring 2027 is not expected to include it. If this is the feature you want, waiting six months does not get it — it is a Pro purchase or nothing.

Rent or Buy, on the Real Numbers

At S$2,099 for a Pro Max 256GB, the outright purchase carries the full depreciation and repair exposure. An out-of-warranty screen repair on a current flagship runs into the several hundreds, and resale value on a 2-year-old iPhone typically lands 40–55% below what you paid.

A telco bundle from Singtel, StarHub or M1 lowers the upfront cost but ties the device to a 24-month line commitment with early-termination penalties, and usually bundles data you may not need.

A Cinch subscription separates the device from the SIM: you pay monthly for the phone only and keep whatever line you already have. Terms run 3, 6, 12 or 24 months. Plans include accidental damage coverage (with liquid damage), and at term end you upgrade, extend, or buy the device outright with every monthly payment counting toward that purchase price.

What You can Actually Subscribe to Right Now

The iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max are available in the Cinch catalogue.

Cinch also provides the iPhone 17 series, with the iPhone 17 from around S$58/month, the iPhone 17 Pro Max from around S$85/month, and the iPhone Air from around S$58/month. If your current phone is failing now, a short 3 or 6-month iPhone 17 term covers you and ends around the point where the 18 Pro is listed and the spring 2027 lineup is a known quantity. If your phone is fine, waiting costs nothing.

If you need something now, a short-term subscription at Cinch bridges the gap on the current iPhone 17 range without locking you out of the Pro later — 3, 6, 12 or 24-month terms, including accidental damage coverage with liquid damage, and the option to upgrade, extend or buy at the end.
